Sunday School

SCHOOL YEAR: We typically recruit two assigned Sunday school teachers per class. We also recruit substitute teachers each year. Classes meet from 9-9:45 a.m. The younger children and their teachers meet in the Sanctuary at 8:55 a.m. to do their “opening” together which entails learning Christian songs and even one of the hymns sung that morning in worship. They return to their classrooms and the teacher has a prepared lesson and often crafts to reinforce the Gospel lesson.

Sunday classrooms at Concordia are organized as follows:
Pre-K and Kindergarten
Lower Elementary (grades 1-2)
Upper Elementary (grades 3-5)
Middle School (grades 6-8)
High School (grades 9-12)
Adult Bible Study (led by Pastor upstairs)

SUMMER (June-August): We organize and recruit individual lay-teachers to lead a combined class for all children’s ages. We meet in the Sanctuary from 9-9:45 a.m. and do an opening with songs and hymns as per usual, but during the summer we continue the instruction that morning in the Sanctuary. This way we can give our school year teachers a break in the summer and recruit individuals to lead the Sunday school with an assembly of all the young children.
