Stephen Ministers bring Christ’s care to their care receivers. They trust God to bring about the healing and wholeness that God promises. They value prayer as essential to their caregiving. Stephen ministers are well-trained care-givers who also know the importance of letting God work through them to bring the love of Jesus to others. This program is an intentional and deliberate approach to Christian caring for people in need by trained lay-members of the congregation.
In the summer of 2015 we had two “training leaders” attend a week long intensive training course (12 hour days) in St. Louis by the Stephen Ministry staff. The leaders brought home dozens of teaching files for various modules to use for instructing Stephen ministers. In January 2016, after much planning and raising the awareness of our congregation about the Stephen Ministry we began our training sessions for volunteer Stephen ministers. The initial training for Stephen ministers is 50 class time hours + bi-weekly meetings for two years. It is a significant commitment to Christian care-giving meeting needs of congregations and the community.
