Special Events

Fellowship Meals: We have a fellowship meal every 2nd Sunday of each month. Some of the church boards and church groups organize to provide a meal that follows the late service. We meet in the upstairs Fellowship Hall with an average of 80-120 people enjoying lunch and Christian fellowship. It’s a great way for all members to better get to know each other and especially a benefit for our new members. Net proceeds are designated by each of the boards or groups toward their favorite mission.

Leadership Retreat: We hold a leadership retreat on the last Saturday of January each year. We meet from 9-noon and enjoy refreshments, a brief worship service, a Bible study, review the annual congregational survey, and we finish with brain-storming ideas for the coming year. Many of these leadership retreats produce line items in our Strategic Plan/Mission Plan.

Wood Polishing Party: We meet on a Saturday morning from 9-noon with about a dozen folks or more as we use rags to clean and polish all the wood in the church sanctuary. There is much beautiful wood and wood carvings in Concordia’s sanctuary .

Spring and Fall Hikes: A designated Saturday morning and early afternoon are set aside for a pleasant hike together through one of the many beautiful state parks and other great hiking areas in greater-Louisville and Southern Indiana. Members bring sack lunches and can ride together in the church van.

Easter Egg Hunt: Usually a Sunday or two before Easter we hold an annual Easter egg hunt outside (weather permitting) sponsored by our Board of Education and parents. We usually have pastor gather the children in the sanctuary to sing songs or hear a children’s Easter story while the adults are placing all the Easter eggs. We have a party upstairs in the Fellowship Hall following the hunt.

VBS (Vacation Bible School): We have VBS, on a Saturday in June from 10-2 p.m. We use the entire building and sanctuary for the various VBS modules teaching the Gospel interactively with VBS songs/actions, interesting Bible stories, outside games, and fun crafts. We offer a free lunch to everyone and we send the kids home with God’s gospel assurance of salvation in Christ Jesus.

Thunder-Over-Louisville: About 700,000 people gather each year in downtown Louisville and river-front to view the annual “Thunder-Over-Louisville” daytime air show and incredible fireworks after dark. Concordia, located on the rising edge of the Highlands overlooking the downtown area, has a strategic vantage point. We invite the surrounding neighborhoods to join us (via door hanger invitations). We hold a potluck dinner in the Fellowship Hall for all to enjoy before the fireworks begin.
